Temporary Labyrinths

Of course, there are many labyrinths constructed which are only designed to last for the duration of a specific ceremony or event. Here are a selection from the "Labyrinths of Light" event which took place in the city of Cork in Ireland, 15th to 21st December, 2005, as part of the "Solas - Festival of Light" to mark the end of "Cork 2005 - European Capital of Culture." Throughout late November and early December, churches, schools, community groups and artists worked on creating over 50 labyrinths, large and small, 'temporary' or ephemeral, which were installed or displayed across the city during the week leading up to the winter solstice, culminating in a showcase of the labyrinths created at the City Hall on the evening of the 21st December.
