Caerdroia - the journal of mazes and labyrinths

This stone labyrinth in Copenhagen is a modern example of an ancient design that can be traced back some 4000 years to the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age

Caerdroia is an annual journal that provides a focus for the study of mazes and labyrinths. Founded in 1980 by Jeff Saward, the journal acts as a forum for labyrinth research, the publication of important archive material and serves as a monitor of current developments in the field. Each edition contains illustrated papers, notes, news and views on the latest discoveries, theories and ideas from researchers and enthusiasts worldwide, exchanging information and ideas, to help create a clearer picture of the origins and distribution of the enigmatic labyrinth symbol and its descendants, from the earliest rock carvings and artefacts through to modern puzzle mazes of ever increasing complexity and ingenuity.

Current subscribers to Caerdroia include maze and labyrinth researchers, archaeologists and historians, artists and authors, maze designers and owners. The scope of the journal continues to expand and depends on reader contributions of papers, articles, photographs and press clippings - indeed anything of a labyrinthine nature. Caerdroia strives to keep its readers up to date on current developments in the field of mazes and labyrinths, both ancient and modern. As a non-profit making journal dealing with a very specialised subject, Caerdroia relies on reader subscriptions for support. If you are interested in the history, development, diversity or potential of mazes and labyrinths in any of their forms, perhaps you would care to join us on the path...

You can obtain Caerdroia by subscribing to the journal. The annual subscription fee provides the next edition of Caerdroia and helps support the process and costs of producing the journal and maintaining our archives. Subscribers are welcome to access our archives and a photocopy reprint service of articles from past issues and other items on file is available. The latest issue of the journal and back issues are always available for sale by post.

As a new feature for the Caerdroia website, we are gradually converting a number of popular articles from the earlier, out-of-print, editions of Caerdroia and placing them in the Caerdroia Archive section.

We are always pleased to receive submissions such as articles, news and photographs - indeed, anything labyrinthine in nature - for possible publication in Caerdroia and inclusion in the Labyrinthos archives.

Caerdroia is published by Labyrinthos - the Labyrinth Resource Center, Photo Library and Archive. Labyrinthos distributes a range of labyrinthine publications and products - various books on the subject and back issues of Caerdroia are always available and a specialist book catalogue is available on request.

We also maintain a directory of individuals, businesses and organisations, all of whom support Caerdroia and have maze and labyrinth related businesses or interests.
